Missions Trip to Tarapoto

Jon and Nathan were able to take a missions/Senor trip to the jungle districts of Tarapoto, Peru.

They were able to visit and stay with pastors who shared their ministries with them.
Jon was able to preach in three different churches. It was a blessing to fellowship and pray with these pastors.
We were taken to see some sights in the area such as the castle in the city of Lamas.

We were able to hike to waterfalls and see great views.

Nathan enjoyed truck surfing on the curved roads of the mountains.
We needed to cross over the river on a barge to get to another district.

Staying in the house of relatives of the pastor who introduced us to their animals and way of life.
This included cooking on a wood burning stovetop, sleeping with mosquito nets, and having animals as part of the family.

We were able to take advantage of being near a lake with tourist activities.

The family enjoyed cooking for us from killing one of their turkeys and chickens to fresh fish from the lake.

Motor-taxis are the cheapest and easiest method of getting around town.
Chazuta was a town with thriving baptist churches that we wanted to visit.
The Pastor took us in and shared the history of how God has blessed their ministries to reach many in the area with the Gospel.

A church with a radio station that podcasts the scriptures to many indigenous tribes and languages.

They are in the process of building a new church building to host a seminary, housing for visitors, and services.
The church is also the home to a ministry that distributes clean water to many.
The area is known for producing chocolate. We were able to visit some factories who shared with us the process of extracting and preparing the chocolate.

The main plaza is known for its burial ground huts.

Nathan got involved on the trip in many ways. He identified a green wild parrot in the tree.
Can you spot it?

 Learning to drive a motor-taxi.
Helping run electronics in the church.
We participated in a bilingual church (Spanish and Quechua). It was a blessing to hear God worshipped in song in both languages.
Jon tried playing their jungle instrument made of nut shells.

Praying that God uses this trip to inspire and encourage us to continue to further the Gospel.
