To Our Faithful Supporters,
Revelation 22:20-21 “Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”
As we start the year 2023, it is with preparation and anticipation for the Lord’s return. We count it a privilege to serve God in the high jungle of Perú as missionaries.
It was a joy to share with others throughout December the gift that God gave to us of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. We give special thanks to those who prayed and gave special love offerings to make it possible to help others during Christmas time. Our church was able to gather together on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day for church services. I was encouraged to see those who came. We were also able to offer other fellowship times that provided opportunities to get to know each other better personally.
It seems as if each new year provides a another opportunity to learn from past mistakes and start anew in God’s grace. We want you to know that we pray for each of our supporters weekly and appreciate your prayers for us.
As we look ahead and make plans for 2023, we find our calendar is filling up with traveling and hosting visitors. We’ve had to postpone our furlough until the fall of 2024 and will be in contact with you as the dates are confirmed to begin scheduling.
Please continue to pray for our needs to be met for a bigger space and more helpers for the church. Nisha and I find ourselves being stretched weekly with church services, children’s club, discipleships, and evangelism. It’s difficult during the rainy season to offer services in our garage, which holds 25 people, and have over 40 arrive in attendance. When there’s good weather they don’t mind sitting in chairs in the street or in the yard to listen. We appreciate the funds donated recently to our building fund. God has provided $23,115.08 of our goal of $100,000.
Some may recall that we have applied for our permanent residency visas. We have an appointment scheduled for January 23rd in Lima (11 hours away) to further proceed the process. We should find out in the weeks to follow if we are approved.
Country update: Perú has made international news due to political unrest. The former president, Pedro Castillo, has been arrested and is being investigated for corruption and abuse of power. This has resulted in aggressive protesting beginning in early December and started back up January 4th following a time of peace for the holidays. Over 50 people have been killed in the country, as well as road blocks and destruction of airports and buildings. Our area has been peaceful up to this point, not wanting to participate in the protesting. However, this could change rapidly and possibly prohibit our travel plans later this month.
Family Update: We praise the Lord that we are healthy. All four of our children are enrolled for classes at Maranatha Baptist University this semester. Our oldest son, Matthew, is planning to graduate this May and get married in June. We are praying for the visa of his fiancé to be approved.
Serving a Great God,
Jon & Nisha Harris
