February 2022 Prayer Letter Update

 To Our Faithful Supporters,

Thank you for your interest in staying up to date with the ministry here in the jungle of Perú. We are in the middle and most difficult month of rainy season. This causes mud slides, overflowing river banks, blocked roads, sicknesses, and a lot of mud. Perú is now in its third wave of the Corona virus and it has spread five times worse than the previous waves. A majority of the country has been put on the level of high alert due to the spread of the virus. They are now vaccinating all children ages 5-11. Limited capacity, double masks, and proof of full vaccination must be shown to enter enclosed buildings. I was involved in two funerals this weekend and had the opportunity to share the story of Lazarus death in John 11. I found it interesting that many times our human nature sees all the negativity rather than looking for opportunities to reveal God. John 11: 4 states “When Jesus heard that (Lazarus was sick), he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby”. God many times uses tragedy and difficult times to reveal Himself to us and to others. After Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead it says in verse 45 “Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him”.

We have been encouraged to see God working in lives even through the  times are hard. A couple just visited our house from Huancayo (over 5 hours away) whom we ministered to over three years ago when they were going through a hard time. They took the time to look us up and bring us gifts and we prayed together thanking God for His goodness. So, as I share the difficult times and prayer requests, please know that we are not complaining or dwelling on the negativity but asking God to use these times as opportunities for more to see the works of God and believe on Him.

Prayer Requests:

  • Yeni is a single mom with three children who is currently without a job. She has attended our church but has missed lately due to each of them being sick. All four of them live in a one room apartment together in a shared apartment building. We have delivered medicine and food in our visits.
  • Zemona is an elderly lady that lives alone in a muddy shack. She attends our church every possible chance. She is having constant pain in her leg and back.
  • The two families who have lost loved ones and whose funerals were this week (father of Jackie and husband of Jesusa).

Praises:

  • The church remains open and continues to stand on God’s Word. Our holiday events were a blessing and very well attended.
  • Those who are being discipled and making spiritual decisions.
  • We continue to be grateful to have the opportunity to share the Gospel as we share food bags to those in need along with medicine and other supplies.
  • Our daughter Rebecca healed quickly from having Covid back in November with mild symptoms. All four of our children are healthy and living together in an apartment in Watertown, WI where Matthew and Katie were able to return to a full class schedule this semester. Rebecca and Nathan are looking forward to working to save money to return to classes.
