To Our Faithful Supporters,
Greetings from the high jungle of Perú, South America. We want to give this update since these next couple months are usually filled with events and special services with the holidays for everybody. We thank you for being a faithful supporter this year especially with the complications of Covid. We look forward to what God will do as He expands His kingdom through our ministries.
Our church (Mount Calvary Baptist), continues to meet every Sunday and Wednesday and is averaging thirty in attendance each week. We’re excited to see the spiritual growth in those who we disciple weekly. It’s a joy to a pastor when those in the church come ask how they can be involved and use their gifts for God. It was a blessing these last two months to have other visitors come from great distances to be a part of our ministry from Lima and Huancayo. We continue to share food bags to those in need. We ask for prayers for our special Thanksgiving service at the end of November with a special speaker coming from Huancayo.
We had an evangelistic activity in a smaller village (Gamazu). They were grateful that we came and invited us back. It was a joy to make new contacts while preaching the Gospel, playing games, and sharing God’s love through food bags and gifts. Please pray for those in Gamazu to seek God. The children have been out of school (in person) for the last two years due to the pandemic. They are found wandering around without any purpose or direction. Perú is trying everything possible to have all schools start (in person) by the beginning of the next school year in March. Some private schools started this month by dividing the students into groups and meeting two days a week and offering minimal classes.
Perú still has the highest mortality rate for Covid deaths in all the world. Please pray for smooth transitions to new mandates and restrictions as they seek to control the spread especially entering the holidays.
Perutravelandlife.org just put out an article by Philip entitled “Huge Change in Peru’s Vaccine Policy Coming”. I normally summarize and give the highlights of the update on Covid but decided to copy his article on our prayer letter since it’s well written. It states:
“Yesterday Peru introduced new measures through November 18 in the fight against COVID, but the biggest announcement was that, as of December 15, 2021, people over 18 years old who wish to enter [enclosed spaces] will have to present their physical or virtual vaccination card against COVID-19 proving that they have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Also, the use of a mask will be required, according to the conditions indicated in Article 8 of the Supreme Decree. In the case of restaurants, the mask may be removed only at the time of eating the food. Also, any company with more than 10 workers will be able to operate in person only if all its workers certify that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19. Drivers and money collectors of public transportation services, as well as those who provide delivery services, will only be able to operate if they prove that they have been fully vaccinated. As announced last month, anyone traveling on interprovincial land transportation over the age of 45 must show proof of full vaccination status.Section 8.4 of the Decree says “the use of a KN95 mask, or failing that, a three-fold surgical mask and a community (cloth) mask on top of it, is mandatory to circulate on public roads and in enclosed places, or in places where physical or corporal distancing cannot be maintained”, but it does not mention face shields. New restrictions also were announced that through November 28. Most of the Peru is still under Moderate Level Alert restrictions, but a handful of provinces are under High Alert Level restrictions.”
Family update: We received a call informing us that our twin girls at college were exposed to other students who tested positive with Covid. This required them to be quarantined for a period of time. Our girls were given a Covid test with results revealing that Rebecca has Covid and that Katie doesn’t.Please pray for them as they remain isolated and recover. This causes complications with many of their plans for Thanksgiving, their birthday on the 26th of November, and college classes and events. Thankfully our boys, my wife and myself remain healthy and Covid free.
Serving a Great God,
