Teachers strike in Peru

For the last few months the children in Peru have been out of school, not because of a summer break because it is winter season right now, but because of a teacher strike. The teachers, who are extremely under paid, are demanding more money and benefits. The pictures below are from a side street out of downtown where rocks, trees, and debri are used to block the roads. The closer to central town you get the worse it gets. Nisha would not allow me to take pictures of the other road blocks and displays of the strike where they chained themselves to trees in the main plaza for attention, burned tires in the street, marched with banners all around, and caused businesses to close down. It has been off and on now for the last few months and will continue to get worse if demands are not met.
