September 2021 Prayer Letter Update

To Our Faithful Supporters,

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Some may find it odd we would use James 4:7 to start a prayer letter but I believe it summarizes part of our last couple of months. We’ve been studying in our church the basic needs of the Christian life. There is a need for strong faith and how to get the victory over sin. It can be discouraging when we observe the effects of sin and lack of faith in God. Please pray for Miguel and Myra who are single adults and children of a couple in our church who are not living for God. Please pray for another single adult named Frank who has recently been visiting our church with drug addiction.

Covid-19 still lingers in our area. New restrictions came out recently for all of Perú with only two districts being in high alert and all others in moderate alert. Our district of Oxapampa was one of the two as Covid still remains to be a problem overwhelming the medical facilities. Many families are still trying to recover as children are not being educated and jobs are scarce. Our current restrictions only allow 40% capacity in church meetings, along with the need for face masks, temperature checks, hand washing, and social distancing. The police have driven by our church each church meeting but thankfully have not caused any concern. We continue to pray for God to reveal a more suitable location for the church. Thank you to those who have responded to our sending church request to support us with this endeavor. We have heard from some who are joining us in prayer and from those who were able to give financially.

The church was able to offer a VBS for the children this year as visitors from the coast of Perú came to assist. We were not able to promote the same as before Covid due to our space and lack of workers but still found ourselves ministering to over 50 children that came to VBS. We’re thankful for Raquel and Raul bringing the Bible challenges and lending a hand.

On July 28th we were able to celebrate the 200th Independence day of Perú (Bicentennial). It provided an opportunity to invite family and visitors to church to hear the Gospel. It was a joy to also have members from our church in Huancayo come and assist with the events. The church enjoyed the puppets, decorations, snacks, etc. as we celebrated what God has given to us.

God is in control and we submit to His will and timing. We continue to remain faithful with church services on Sundays and Wednesdays along with discipleships and visitations. It has been a blessing to provide for families with needs. Food bags are given weekly along with medicine. A widow (Simona) from our church was able to receive a bed and comforter due to a special love gift from a supporting church.  We are thankful for God’s protection and for our good health throughout this pandemic but also praying for those not as fortunate.

Perú has a new president (Pedro Castillo) sworn in on July 28th. His socialistic beliefs along with lack of political experience have caused concern as there has been a lack of order since he took office. Many are concerned with who he is putting into positions of leadership and what it could lead to in the future. We remain hopeful as it has only affected the raise of prices on goods but not religious freedoms.

Family update: Thank you for your prayers for us personally. All four of our children are studying at Maranatha Baptist University. We just received word that our daughter Becca will need to be quarantined due to her roommate testing positive for Covid. The change in weather has caused are kids to catch cold’s, along with dehydration. Please pray for their health and strength. Nisha and I are currently healthy and thankful for God’s provision to us. We enjoy the opportunity to serve God in Perú. Thank you for being a part of our ministry.

Serving a Great God,
